There is much written about forming good business habits and breaking bad business habits. Business leaders remind us that we should spend time working on our business, use prioritized lists, manage our email…the list goes on.
The issue I have with the idea of a habit is that habits are unconscious and static. In other words, a habit once formed is as good as you are going be at a given behavior.

I believe the word practice encapsulates a better approach to the issue of behaving consistently and effectively. Forming a practice consciously recognizes that there is always room for improvement.

Running a business is complex and challenging. Allowing oneself to become complacent by relying on habits is a certain path to failure.
